England won the toss and chose to field first. India found themselves in a precarious position, with Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant back in the hut early. However, Sharma kept the hopes of the Indian supporters alive with a gutsy knock.
The right-handed batter crossed the 50-run mark with a stunning six off Sam Curran's bowling in the 13th over. He went down on one knee and played a sweep shot to send the ball over the square leg boundary for a maximum.
