India captain Rohit Sharma's struggles with the bat continued as he was dismissed for just three runs in India's first innings of the ongoing fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Melbourne on Day 2 (Friday, December 27). Rohit lost his wicket while Hindi commentators on Star Sports were talking about India demoting KL Rahul to No. 3 despite his success as an opener in the ongoing series.

Rahul, who opened the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first three BGT Tests, was pushed down to the No. 3 position as Rohit Sharma, who batted at number six in the second and third Tests, returned at the top of the order.

While commentating on the Star Sports Hindi feed, cricketer Hanuma Vihari was discussing Rahul's changed batting position, and Rohit Sharma got out the very next moment. His bat saw a leading edge as the 37-year-old failed to read the back-of-a-length delivery from Australia skipper Pat Cummins.

"KL Rahul ke liye open or number three mai zyada farak nahi hai, dekha jaye toh (There is not much difference in opening or number three for KL Rahul, if you see)," Vihari said.

After batting at No. 6 in Adelaide and Brisbane, Rohit failed as an opener in Melbourne as well. He faced just five deliveries before returning to the hut.

Rohit Sharma's continued failures with the bat concerning for India

A change in the batting position did not work for India captain Rohit Sharma as he was dismissed for just three runs. He missed the opening Test in Perth but returned for the second Test in Adelaide.

In Adelaide, Rohit returned with scores of 3 and 6. The third Test in Brisbane, which ended in a draw, also saw Rohit barely getting to the double-figure mark. He scored 10 runs off 27 deliveries before being dismissed.

Rohit has failed in every innings of the ongoing series. The skipper's poor form with the bat for a prolonged period has been a cause of serious concern for the Indian team.
