[Watch] Rohit Sharma reacts to fan singing his name during India's practice session ahead of ODI series vs Sri Lanka

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is set to return to cricketing action with the side's upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. The ace batter will be seen in action for the first time since leading the Men in Blue to the 2024 T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies and the USA.

During India's practice session ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka, Sharma was seen acknowledging a fan who was singing a song with the Indian captain's name. He looked at the fan and smiled before walking towards the ground.

The video of the incident was shared by one of the cricket star's fans on the microblogging platform X.

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. They defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final to clinch the coveted trophy.

Sharma was India's leading run-getter at the showpiece event, chalking up 257 runs across eight innings at an average of 37.71 and a strike rate of 156.70. The 37-year-old announced his retirement from T20Is following the title win.

"Like I have been rested for a series" - Rohit Sharma on his T20I retirement

At a press conference ahead of India's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma opened up on his T20I retirement. He suggested that the retirement is yet to sink in and it seems like he was just rested for one series.

Sharma said (via Revsportz Global):

"At the moment, the T20I retirement feeling is like I have been rested for a series."

Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as India's new T20I skipper following Rohit Sharma's retirement. The swashbuckling batter's tenure kicked off with a stunning 3-0 whitewash over Sri Lanka.

Speaking about Suryakumar's captaincy, Sharma said:

"Early days for Surya as T20I captain. Good start, but let him do the job a bit more."

The ODI series opener between the two Asian teams will be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2.
