Team India skipper Rohit Sharma took a sharp reflex catch at slip to dismiss Daryl Mitchell for 82 runs on Day 1 of the third Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The New Zealand middle-order batter was threatening to add even more valuable runs towards the end while battling the heat, before his innings was brought to an end by Washington Sundar.
Despite inducing a collapse midway through the day, courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja, India still did not have an answer to Daryl Mitchell. The right-handed batter continued to bat with the tail, helping New Zealand cross the 200-run mark.
Mitchell was approaching his hundred, having taken on Sundar for a six in his previous over. In the opening delivery of the 66th over, the off-spinner, coming around the wicket, induced a soft dismissal. Mitchell tried to place the ball towards the third man region with soft hands, but ended up getting a thick edge.
Rohit Sharma sprang quickly to his right, pouching the ball by his knee to seal the ninth wicket.

This marks the third successive time that Mitchell was dismissed by Washington Sundar. He lost his wicket to the off-spinner across both innings during the second Test in Pune.
Daryl Mitchell played a huge hand in New Zealand posting 235 in the first innings
Mitchell recorded three fours and three sixes in his innings, and had to pile up the remainder of his runs by running between the wickets in the grueling Mumbai heat. The New Zealand innings did not last long after the right-handed batter departed. Ajaz Patel was dismissed in the same over as the visitors folded out for 235, collapsing from 159/3 in the 45th over.
Mitchell has not taken the field in the final phase of the day after battling cramps consistently while batting. Tim Southee is the replacement fielder at the minute as India have commenced their first innings with the bat.
