[Watch] Scott Boland cleans up KL Rahul for 13 in 2nd innings of 2024-25 BGT 5th Test

Australian pacer Scott Boland provided the first breakthrough for Australia in the second innings, removing KL Rahul on Day 2 (Saturday, January 4) of the fifth 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test. The match is being played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The dismissal occurred on the third ball of the eighth over of India's second innings. Boland bowled a full-length delivery outside off that nipped back. Rahul attempted to drive but got a faint inside edge, which deflected onto the stumps.

The 32-year-old scored 13 off 20 balls in his final innings of the tour. KL Rahul's dismissal left India at 42-1 after 7.3 overs.


India lose two quick wickets in their second innings of the 2024-25 BGT 5th Test

Team India won the toss and decided to bat on the green-top pitch. However, their batters struggled, getting bowled out for 185, with Rishabh Pant top-scoring with a gritty 40. In response, stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah provided a crucial breakthrough, dismissing Usman Khawaja on the final ball of Day 1, leaving Australia at 9-1 after three overs.

On Day 2, the visitors dominated as Australia lost half their side for just 96. Debutant Beau Webster made a solid 57, helping Australia post 181 in their first innings. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna each took three wickets for India.

Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a strong start in their second innings, hitting Mitchell Starc for four boundaries in the first over. KL Rahul also looked solid as the pair scored 39 runs in the first seven overs. Australia's leading pacer from the first innings, Scott Boland, struck by removing KL for 13, providing the first breakthrough for the hosts.

The 35-year-old followed up with a brilliant delivery to dismiss Jaiswal for 22 off 35 balls in his next over. At the time of writing, the visitors were 48-2 after 11 overs, leading by 52 runs, with Shubman Gill (5) and Virat Kohli (1) at the crease.
