Team India broke the back of the Zimbabwean batting when part-timer Shivam Dube removed opener Wessly Madhevere in the fourth T20I at Harare on July 13. Renowned for his military medium-pace bowling, the 31-year-old entered the attack with Zimbabwe in a good position at 64/1 in 9 overs.
However, Dube struck in the final ball of his opening over after a disciplined first five deliveries Madhevere charged down the wicket only to miscue a pull of a shortish ball to find Rinku Singh at deep square leg.
.The dismissal made it back-to-back wickets for India after the Zimbabwe openers had put on 63 for the first wicket.
Here is a video of Dube's strike in his opening over:
It was only Dube's ninth wicket in 31 T20I games and his first after the second T20I against Afghanistan earlier this year.
He finished with figures of 1/11 in his two overs, helping India recapture the advantage. Dube was part of India's unbeaten run to the 2024 T20 World Cup title, scoring a crucial 16-ball 27 in the finale against South Africa.
Shivam Dube's strike helps India restrict Zimbabwe below 160
Shivam Dube's wicket helped India put the squeeze on the Zimbabwe lineup after they lost the toss and were asked to bat by skipper Shubamn Gill.
Another part-timer Abhishek Sharma broke a flourishing opening wicket partnership for 63 in the ninth over of the innings. Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza provided some much-needed impetus to the side with his 28-ball 46 as they finished on 152/7 in 20 overs.
For India, Khaleel Ahmed finished with figures of 2/32, while as many as four bowlers picked up a wicket each.
The Men in Blue suffered a shocking defeat in the series opener by 13 runs. However, they bounced back with back-to-back crushing wins to take a 2-1 lead entering the ongoing clash.
With a series win at stake, India are off to a scintillating start at 15/0 after the opening.
