Oval Invincibles Women's player Sophia Smale took an incredible catch on her own bowling to dismiss Sophie Devine in the first game of The Hundred Women's competition. The match took place on Tuesday, July 23, at Kennington Oval, London.
Sophie Devine got the leading edge while she tried to knock the ball to the on-side on the 51st ball of the Birmingham Phoenix Women's inning. The ball went in the air, and Smale timed her jump to perfection to take a brilliant one-handed catch.
Devine scored 13 runs off 12 balls, hitting two fours in her inning. Her wicket left Birmingham at 64/4 in 51 balls while chasing a target of 151 runs.

No Birmingham Phoenix player was able to play a big inning as they got bowled out on 105 runs in 92 balls, losing the match by 45 runs. Amy Jones (21 off 15 balls) was the leading run scorer for Ellyse Perry’s side.
Meanwhile, Amanda-Jade Wellington took three wickets for the Oval Invincibles as they started their campaign on a winning note.
Paige Scholfield shines for Oval Invincibles Women
After being invited to bat first, the Invincibles Women lost their captain Lauren Winfield-Hill for 12 runs on the 19th ball. Then, Paige Scholfield and Alice Capsey stitched together a brilliant 90-run partnership for the second wicket in 55 balls.
Scholfield scored 71 runs off 40 balls, smashing 12 boundaries in her inning. On the other hand, Capsey played a brilliant hand of 52 runs off 40 balls, including five fours. The Invincibles Women ended their innings at 150/5 in 100 balls.
In response, Oval Invincibles Women were brilliant, as they didn’t let any Birmingham Phoenix players settle on the crease and won the game by 45 runs.
The Birmingham Phoenix Women will face the London Spirit Women in their second match of the tournament on Saturday, July 27. Meanwhile, Oval Invincibles Women will square off against Welsh Fire Women on Sunday, July 28.
