Australian ace batter Steve Smith was dismissed by a ripper bowled by Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna in the ongoing fifth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Smith's wicket came when he was only a run short of completing 10,000 runs in Test cricket.
Smith walked out to bat following Marnus Labuschagne's dismissal and was only five runs short of 10,000 Test runs. The seasoned Australian batter survived an LBW shout off Prasidh's bowling earlier with the help of DRS.
Prasidh would have his moment later in the game as on the last ball of the 10th over, he bowled a back-of-a-length delivery that would rise a bit and have Smith caught off guard. The former Aussie skipper edged it and Yashasvi Jaiswal, fielding at gully, put in a dive and completed the catch, sending Smith back.
Take a look at the dismissal of the same below:
Steve Smith was dismissed for 4 off nine deliveries. He had an eventful Border Gavaskar Trophy, scoring 314 runs in nine innings, including hundreds at the Gabba and the MCG.
BGT 2024-25 fifth Test in balance as both teams fight for a win
Team India started Day 3 with the bat and had a poor start, losing four wickets for 16 runs and being bowled out for 157 in 39.5 overs. The visitors would then go on to have a poor start on the bowling front as the Australians blazed their way to 34 runs inside the first three overs.
However, Prasidh Krishna would change the course of the game, dismissing Sam Konstas (22 of 17), Marnus Labuschagne (6 off 20), and Steve Smith in the six overs he sent down.
Australia are on 71/3 after 13 overs and need 91 runs to win the Test and seal the five-match series 3-1.
