Washington Freedom (WSF) captain Steve Smith plucked a stunner in the Major League Cricket (MLC) fixture against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) at Church Street Park in Morrisville. The veteran Aussie cricketer attempted the catch with both hands at short mid-wicket, timing his dive perfectly as the ball stuck.

The dismissal occurred in the 11th over of the innings sent down by Glenn Maxwell as Nitish Kumar tried to whip the ball through to mid-wicket. However, the ball took the inside half of the bat and flew in the air, with Smith intervening to take a blinder.

Here's a video of the catch:

It was also Maxwell's second wicket, having previously dismissed Shakib Al Hasan and later getting rid of Andre Russell to finish with figures of 4-0-15-3. However, Saurabh Netravalkar was the star, taking four wickets to restrict the Knight Riders to 129. Lockie Ferguson finished with a couple, while Rachin Ravindra took a solitary scalp.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith continued his sensational run with the bat, setting the foundation with Travis Head to chase down 130 with eight wickets and four overs to spare. The 35-year-old scored an unbeaten 42 off 36 deliveries, while Head bludgeoned 54 off 32 deliveries with the aid of six maximums to stitch a 79-run opening stand.

With the former Aussie captain wasn't part of Australia's 2024 T20 World Cup squad, he is now the third-highest run-getter in MLC 2024 with 126 runs in four innings. However, Smith remains an integral part of Australia's Test and ODI squad and will return to national colors when the Men in Yellow face England and Scotland in 50-over matches.

The tour of Scotland and England kicks off on September 1 in Edinburgh.
