One of the most comical missed run-outs ensued when Surrey missed a simple chance during the 2024 One Day Cup clash against Yorkshire at the Oval on July 25. Surrey won the toss and elected to field first in the tournament opener for both teams.

They removed opener Finlay Bean in the third over to reduce Yorkshire to 7/1, bringing in skipper Shan Masood to the crease. The Pakistan Test captain with the other opener William Luxton took the side to 66/1 after 11 overs.

In the 12th over, Masood tapped a good length delivery to the deep on the off-side and completed a comfortable single. However, sensing an opportunity for a two, he sprinted down the pitch for a second but his partner was ball-watching and did not move.

Finally, Luxton also started to run when Masood was three quarters of the way through to the striker's end but the ball had arrived to the wicket-keeper's gloves. Yet, in a brain fade moment, Surrey's gloveman Josh Blake missed the opportunity to remove the bails at the striker's end to run Luxton out and threw the ball to the fielder at the bowler's end.

By that time, both batters made their ground and escaped being run-out in one of the most comical moments on a cricketing field.

Here is the video of the same:

Unfortunately, the fun did not last much longer for the partnership as Masood was dismissee soon after for 24 in the 16th over. The game was also reduced to 33-overs-a-side after a few rain interruptions.

Missed run-out proves costly for Surrey

The simple missed run-out of William Luxton proved costly for Surrey as he scored a brilliant 79-ball 83 with 12 boundaries. The knock helped Yorkshire post a massive total of 240/6 in their alloted 33 overs.

The visitors were also helped by excellent batting displays from George Hill ( 51 off 38) and Matthew Revis (36* off 15). In defense of their total, Yorkshire have reduced Surrey to 14/1 in the third over.

Both Surrey and Yorkshire endured dismal One Cup 2023 seasons, finishing 8th and 6th in Group B to miss the knockout stages.

Leicestershire are the defending champions of the competition after their thrilling two-run win over Hampshire in the summit clash.
