Former Australia opening batter Simon Katich gave a brutal statement following Virat Kohli's dismissal in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test at the MCG. Katich targeted Kohli for his poor run of form in the series so far.
Virat Kohli walked out to bat following the dismissal of KL Rahul (0) as India chased 340 on Day 5. The ace batter took some time in the middle and looked scratchy at the start of his innings. He opted to block rather than play the initial balls.
However, on the first ball of the 27th over bowled by Mitchell Starc, Kohli went chasing a wide delivery where the ball took the outside edge and flew straight to Usman Khawaja in the first slip, who held onto the ball.
Kohli was dismissed for five runs. Katich, who was on-air calling the match, had said (via SEN Cricket on X):
"The King is dead. He trudges off, King Bumrah has taken the mantle now. Kohli looks dejected with himself. That was a big knock for him but he has come up short. India reeling on 33 for 3 as we head into lunch on Day 5 here. Australia will be very happy with the situation they find themselves in after the break." (0:54)

Virat Kohli's dismal run in BGT 2024-25 continues
A series of low scores following a century in Perth has seen questions being raised about Virat Kohli's form and his place in the Test side. Following his 30th Test ton, Kohli has only managed 62 runs in the next five innings, with his scores reading 7,11, 3, 36, and 5. In the fourth Test, he was also involved in an on-field scuffle with Australia's debutant Sam Konstas for which, he was fined 20 per cent of his match fee.
Virat Kohli will be looking to regain his form as he heads into the last Test of the series, starting January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Kohli has has a good record at the SCG, having scored 248 runs in five innings at 49.60, inclusive of one century.
