India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah struck a crucial blow by dismissing Australia’s Travis Head for a duck on Day 1 (Thursday, December 26) of the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). The match is being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The dismissal took place on the fourth ball of the 67th over. Bumrah bowled a back-of-a-length delivery just outside off, and Head, likely expecting the ball to either not seam or move away, lifted his bat. However, the ball seamed in slightly and clipped the top of the off stump, giving India an important wicket.
Here’s a video of the dismissal:
Head, the top run-scorer in the 2024-25 BGT, went out without adding to his tally. His dismissal left Australia at 240/4 after 66.3 overs.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat, with Usman Khawaja partnered by debutant Sam Konstas at the top. The young opener showed great confidence, attempting a reverse scoop against Jasprit Bumrah in the third over but missing.
However, Konstas smashed Bumrah for two boundaries and a six in the seventh over. He reached his fifty off 52 balls before being dismissed for 60 off 65 balls by Ravindra Jadeja.
Meanwhile, Khawaja fought hard, bringing up his first fifty of the series and finishing with 57 off 121 balls. At tea, Australia were 176/2, with Steven Smith (10) and Marnus Labuschagne (44) at the crease.
After the break, Labuschagne reached his fifty, marking his 22nd in Tests. Washington Sundar then gave India their third breakthrough, dismissing Labuschagne for 72.
Jasprit Bumrah followed up by removing Travis Head (0) and Mitchell Marsh (4) in quick succession. At the time of writing, Australia were 254/5 after 71 overs, with Smith (50) and Alex Carey (5) at the crease.
