Delhi Capitals middle-order batter Tristan Stubbs took Mumbai Indians seamer Luke Wood to the cleaners in the IPL 2024 match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 27). The South African right-handed batter slammed the left-arm seamer for 26 in an over, including five boundaries while playing some outrageous strokes.

The battering came in the 18th over as Stubbs opened the over with two boundaries with scoop shots over the fine leg region. The third ball was a reverse scoop as the ball flew for a six. The right-hander played another reverse scoop and got it just over Jasprit Bumrah for yet another boundary.

The final two deliveries also perished for boundaries as the 23-year-old played powerful pull shots.

Wood came into the Mumbai Indians' squad for the injured Jason Behrendorff, who was ruled out due to an injury. Saturday's game saw him replace Gerald Coetzee, who missed out due to a stomach bug. The Englishman registered figures of 4-0-60-1, dismissing Shai Hope.

Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has been a fresh breath of air for the Capitals, set the tone for their side. The 21-year-old went hammer and tongs from the outset, reaching his half-century off only 15 deliveries.

The opening partnership between him and Abhishek Porel was worth 114 before leg-spinner Piyush Chawla managed to get rid of him. Shai Hope also contributed 41 off only 17 deliveries with five sixes to his name.

Rishabh Pant, who clattered 88 against the Gujarat Titans, perished to Jasprit Bumrah after smashing 29 off only 19 deliveries. Despite that, the home side finished with a flourish Stubbs and Axar Patel managed to collect 17 runs off the 20th over sent down by Nuwan Thushara.

The former remained unbeaten at 48 off 25 deliveries, with a knock laced with six fours and a couple of sixes.
