Former Team India batter Vinod Kambli was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, January 1. Much to the delight of his fans, the ex-cricketer was seen playing cricket in an Indian jersey before leaving the medical facility.
The 52-year-old was admitted to Akruti Hospital on December 21 in Thane where he was diagnosed with brain clots and urine infection.

Kambli also gave a message to people, urging them to stay away from alcohol. Promising to return to the Shivaji Park ground, he said during a media interaction (via TOI):
"This doctor (Shailesh Thakur) made me fit and I had stated that I would come back only when I am fit. I will show people in Shivaji Park that I Vinod Kambli will not leave cricket. These guys (at the hospital) gave me good cricket practice. I ‘hit’ only fours and sixes. Enjoy the new year. Don’t drink alcohol. Enjoy life."
Vinod Kambli's health condition concerned many after a video of him struggling to walk went viral on social media. Furthermore, he looked weak and couldn't speak properly during the inauguration of the Ramakant Achrekar memorial last month.

While in the hospital, Vinod Kambli said he could not speak to his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar about his medical condition as the latter had traveled to London.
Kambli said Tendulkar was eventually informed about it by someone from the media. During a chat with PTI, the 52-year-old said:
"Nahi, woh London chale gaye the. Lekin unko pata chal gaya. Aap log (media) hi bataye koi (No, he had left for London. But he got to know. Someone from the media told him)."
According to TOI, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his son Shrikant Shinde announced a ₹5 lakh financial aid for Vinold Kambli.
