Virat Kohli was booed by Australian fans after being dismissed in the fourth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test on Day 2 (Friday, December 27). Kohli was walking back to the changing room when the crowd was heard booing the former India captain. The player was then seen returning from the tunnel near the dressing room to confront one of the spectators.
Kohli stopped for a moment and appeared to be giving the crowd a stare as an official had to usher him back into the tunnel to avoid another possible controversy or heated moment.
Kohli was subjected to booing, possibly because of the shoulder barge incident he was involved in with Sam Konstas on the opening day of the Melbourne Test. The video of the latest incident is going viral on the internet across social media platforms.
Virat Kohli was dismissed for 36 off 86 deliveries. While he patiently left the balls outside the off stump initially, he eventually fell prey to a similar delivery which seems to be giving him never-ending trouble.
He failed to convert a solid start and was sent back towards the end of play on Day 2, leaving India in a spot of bother in the important match.
Australian media unhappy with Virat Kohli's punishment
After the controversy with Sam Konstas, Virat Kohli was fined 20% of his match fees and handed one demerit point by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The Australian media, however, has lashed out at the ICC, expressing their unhappiness and suggesting that the star batter got away easily and escaped a ban.
The Australian media claimed that the ICC were lenient towards Kohli by not handing him a harsher punishment. Former Australian cricketers Ricky Ponting and Mark Waugh have also slammed the governing body.
Whether it was the airport incident or the heated exchange with Konstas, Kohli has been involved in controversies since arriving in Melbourne.
