Team India ace batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for 17 runs off 69 deliveries in the early stages of the second session on Day 1 (Friday, January 3) of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Sydney. The right-handed batter edged a delivery by Scott Boland, with debutant Beau Webster taking a sharp catch at third slip.

On the first ball that he faced in the innings, Kohli had survived a close call off Boland's bowling in the eighth over. He avoided a golden duck after third umpire Joel Wilson declared that Steve Smith had grounded the ball before flicking it up for Marnus Labuschagne to complete the catch at gully.

Kohli respected the conditions and bowlers to keep a low profile and survive until the end of the first session. The 36-year-old added only five runs after Lunch as he fell prey to Scott Boland and the line outside the off-stump yet again. The right-arm pacer honed it on the line in question, forcing Kohli to have a poke at the length delivery.

Webster, with his tall frame, dove to his left, snatching the ball almost in the zone of the second slip to seal the wicket.

Have a look at the dismissal right here:

Kohli tried to play the long game by being patient, but much like the first innings of the Boxing Day Test, Boland eventually prevailed.

Boland has dismissed Kohli thrice in the BGT 2024-25 series so far

Kohli has had a hard time dealing with bowlers who can bowl consistently in good areas. Josh Hazlewood dismissed him twice in the ongoing series, and in the absence of the right-arm pacer, Boland has taken over the responsibility of tormenting Kohli.

He has dismissed Kohli in each of the three Tests he has played in the series so far. The pacer had also claimed the ace batter's scalp during the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in 2023.

Boland was close to picking up his third wicket but Steve Smith spilled the opportunity in slips to hand Ravindra Jadeja a second life.
