Off-spinner Washington Sundar cleaned up Rachin Ravindra for the third time in as many innings in the India-New Zealand Test series on Friday, November 1. It was a brilliant delivery for the third consecutive time that beat the southpaw's defenses completely.
The dismissal happened in the 20th over of the first innings in the third match at the Wankhede. On the last ball, Sundar looped it up on the middle-and-off-stump line, making it drift towards the batter. The ball pitched and straightened just enough to beat the outside edge and castle Ravindra's off-stump.
Watch the dismissal here:
The best part of that delivery was that Washington Sundar bowled it at over 92.4kph. Because of how quick it was, Ravindra had hardly any time to react to its drifting trajectory and turn.
He got him out in similar fashions in both innings of the last Test too. Ravindra now averages just four against the Indian off-spinner, having managed only 12 runs on 28 balls against Sundar in the series.
Washington Sundar is now the highest wicket-taker in Test series
Another left-handed batter, Tom Latham got out almost like that earlier on Friday for Washington Sundar's first wicket of this Mumbai Test. These were the 12th and 13th wickets for him in the series, making him already the series' joint-highest wicket-taker alongside Mitchell Santner who's not playing the third Test due to an injury.
Sundar has reached that mark despite missing the first Test. It's as much a praise of his quality and the team for choosing him, as it's a reflection of concern on Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja who have managed just six wickets each so far.
Sundar's wicket reduced New Zealand to 72/3 in 20 overs. But since then, Tom Latham and Will Young have stabilized things a bit for the visitors.
