[Watch] West Indies erupt in celebration as they beat England to qualify for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final

The West Indies team celebrated in the dugout, making their way onto the field after defeating England in the 20th game of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The game was held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, October 15. With this victory, the West Indies secured their place in the semi-finals, joining Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Aaliyah Alleyne sealed the victory for the West Indies on the final ball of the 18th over. She hit a boundary, leading them to a six-wicket win over England with two overs to spare. As the ball sailed past the boundary, the West Indies erupted in celebration, cheering enthusiastically as they charged onto the field.

Chasing a target of 142, West Indies openers Hayley Matthews and Qiana Joseph put on a stellar display. They added 102 runs for the first wicket in just 74 balls.

Matthews scored 50 off 38 deliveries, including seven fours and one six, while Joseph contributed 52 runs from 38 balls with six boundaries and two sixes. Deandra Dottin chipped in with 27 off 19, leading the West Indies to a six-wicket victory and securing the top spot in Group B.


Afy Fletcher shines with the ball for West Indies in the first innings

West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl first. England's opening pair, Maia Bouchier and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge put on 29 runs for the first wicket off 23 balls. However, West Indies made a strong comeback, reducing England from 29-0 to 34-3. Captain Heather Knight had to retire hurt after scoring 21 runs off 13 balls.

While England struggled with wickets falling at one end, Nat Sciver-Brunt continued to score at the other. The all-rounder finished unbeaten on 57 off 50 balls, hitting five fours, as England ended their innings at 141-7 in 20 overs. Afy Fletcher was exceptional for West Indies, claiming three wickets while conceding just 21 runs in her four-over spell.
