Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have bid farewell to Deepak Chahar after parting ways with him at the recently concluded IPL 2025 mega auction. After he was released by the yellow franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI) signed the bowling all-rounder with a hefty bid of ₹9.25 crore at the auction. It ended the seven-year association between Deepak and CSK.

Between 2018 and 2024, Chahar played 76 games and picked up as many wickets for CSK, winning the IPL trophy thrice in 2018, 2021, and 2023 with the franchise. Chennai Super Kings engaged in a bidding war with Mumbai Indians for Deepak Chahar for a while, but eventually backed out of the race.

CSK took to their official Instagram handle and shared a reel, comprising some memorable moments of Deepak Chahar in the yellow jersey over the years as they parted ways. They captioned the post:

"I will get that advantage" - Deepak Chahar on playing at Wankhede Stadium for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025

During an interaction on Jio Cinema, Deepak Chahar opened up about his move to Mumbai Indians by narrating an anecdote about his old conversation with his cousin Rahul Chahar. He said:

"Every time I talk to (cousin) Rahul (Chahar), I say you are playing for the team (MI) I should be playing and I am playing for the team (CSK) you should be playing, skill-wise. Because in Chennai, there is help for the spinners and in Mumbai for fast bowlers. He couldn't come to Chennai, but I am going to Mumbai. So I will get that advantage."

Deepak Chahar has a decent record at the Wankhede Stadium, picking up 13 wickets with an economy rate of 7.11 across 11 IPL games at the venue.

Rahul Chahar was part of the Mumbai Indians between 2018 and 2021. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped him in at the IPL 2025 mega auction with a successful bid of ₹3.20 crore.
