Veteran Australian bowler Scott Boland dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal for the second time in the ongoing fifth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The right-arm seamer produced a beauty of a delivery to rearrange Jaiswal's stumps and give Australia their second breakthrough.
The dismissal occurred in the 10th over of the innings after the Victorian had beaten the left-hander's bat off the third ball. The fourth delivery of the over saw Boland breach Jaiswal's defences to hit the top of the off-stump as the southpaw swiped his bat across the line.
The first innings of the fifth and final Test saw Jaiswal nicking one to the slip cordon as he came forward to tackle the veteran bowler, causing him to walk back for 10.
Scott Boland was the pick of Australia's bowlers in the first innings
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old was the pick of Australia's bowlers in the first innings in Sydney, making the most of the conditions to dismiss Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy. His outstanding figures of 20-8-31-4 helped Australia restrict the tourists to 185 in 72.2 overs.
Australia, meanwhile, began the day at 9/1, trailing by 176 runs, but lost four wickets in the opening session. Debutant Beau Webster top-scored with 57 but the hosts conceded a four-run lead. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna stepped up with captain Jasprit Bumrah going out of the SCG for a scan, sharing six wickets.
The home side took a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). However, with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy still with India, the visitors have the opportunity to retain it with a victory in Sydney. A win in Sydney will also help India in keeping their chances alive of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
