Yashasvi Jaiswal missed a well-deserved century on Day 2 (Friday, December 27) of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia in Melbourne. The left-handed batter perished for 82 runs off 117 balls before a suicidal run out.
The dismissal came in the 41st over of India’s first innings. Scott Boland bowled full-length ball on off and Jaiswal played it straight to mid-on before setting off. Virat Kohli, on the non-striker’s end, was watching the ball. The latter kept his ground and Jaiswal came too far.
Pat Cummins, the fielder, missed the target at the striker’s end but wicketkeeper Alex Carey collected the ball before completing formalities. Jaiswal had no chance to go back. The 22-year-old looked utterly disappointed on his walk back to the pavilion as the Australians celebrated.

The run out also ended the 102-run third-wicket partnership between Jaiswal and Kohli. The duo looked strong but failed to replicate their centuries after their masterclass in Perth.

The 36-year-old departed for 36 runs off 86 deliveries.
At Stumps on Day 2, the visitors closed at 164/5 with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja on the crease. They are trailing by 310 runs.

Batting first, the Aussies put up 474. Steve Smith was the leading run-scorer, smashing 140 off 197 deliveries, while the top three chipped in with fifties each. Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball, returning with figures of 4/99. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep bagged three and two wickets, respectively.
The five-match series is currently tied at 1-1. India won the series opener by 295 runs in Perth before Australia bounced back to win the second Test by 10 wickets in Adelaide. The third Test ended in a draw due to rain.
