Team India batting ace Virat Kohli was seen assisting onfield umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat with finding the ball. This incident took place on Day 1 (Friday, January 3) of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test against Australia, hosted by the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Virat Kohli was out in the middle as early as the eighth over. The batter survived a chance early on, with Steve Smith in the slips claiming a catch but the replays showing that Smith had grassed the ball, giving Kohli a reprieve to continue with his innings.
In the first session of Day 1 of the Test, umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat was seen looking around for the ball to hand to Scott Boland. Virat Kohli, who was standing at the bowler's end, was quick to notice it as he told Saikat:
"Where's the ball, you have got the ball in your pocket."
