Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese jokingly said he was considering passing a law that forces ace Indian pacer, Jasprit Bumrah to bowl left-handed or off one step ahead of the fifth and final Test at Sydney, starting January 3. Bumrah has been the star of the Boder-Gavaskar Trophy despite India's 1-2 deficit after four Tests.
The champion pacer leads all bowlers with 30 wickets at a stunning average of 12.83, including three five-wicket hauls. Meanwhile, the Australian Prime Minister hosted the Indian and Australian players on New Year's Day two days before the Sydney Test.
Sportstar quoted him as saying:
"We could pass a law here that says he has to bowl left-handed or off one step. Every time he has come onto bowl has been very exciting. The Australian and Indian teams have already given us an incredible summer of cricket."
Following the fourth Test in Melbourne, Bumrah recorded the highest-ever rating points by an Indian on the ICC Test bowling rankings as he remained on top of the list.
The 31-year-old also captained India to their lone victory in the Australian series - a 295-run win in the series opener at Perth. Despite the visitors losing two of the next three encounters, Bumrah has been at his relentless best with the red cherry.
"Tough place to tour" - Gautam Gambhir during the PM Meet
Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir spoke on behalf of his side during the Australian Prime Minister visit and said Australia is a beautiful country to visit but a tough place to tour.
India have won their last four bilateral Test series against Australia, including the previous two down under in 2018/19 and 2020/21.
“Australia is a beautiful country to travel, but a tough place to tour. Crowds have been absolutely amazing. We’ve got another Test match to go. Hopefully, we can entertain the crowd," said Gambhir.
Gambhir's coaching stint has begun on a tumultuous note. The side suffered an 0-2 ODI series loss to Sri Lanka before incomprehensively losing 0-3 to New Zealand in the home Test series before the Australian tour.
With the side starring down the barrel at 1-2 in the ongoing series, Gambhir is under pressure to ensure India wins the final Test to level things at 2-2 and retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
