Indian captain Rohit Sharma has given his opinion on Yashasvi Jaiswal's dismissal in the second innings of the Melbourne Test match against Australia. Rohit felt that the Indian team have been a little unfortunate when technology has come into the play regarding the decisions for dismissals.
Jaiswal played a magnificent knock of 84 runs from 208 balls in the second innings of the India vs Australia Test in Melbourne. It seemed like the Indian opener would help his team secure a draw, but he got out in an unfortunate manner.
On the fifth delivery of the innings' 71st over bowled by Pat Cummins, Jaiswal attempted to guide a short delivery down the leg-side towards the fine leg region. However, he missed it. Cummins went for the appeal as wicketkeeper Alex Carey grabbed the ball.
The on-field umpire said it was not out. Cummins immediately went for the DRS. Although there wasn't overwhelming evidence that Jaiswal had nicked the delivery, he was adjudged out by the third umpire.
"Don’t know what to make of it. With the naked eye it looked the ball did touch something. In all fairness, he did touch the ball. The technology is not 100 per cent but we cannot look at it too much. We have been at the receiving end of it, we’ve been a little unfortunate," Rohit Sharma said at the post-match press conference.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was furious with the third umpire's decision. Even Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar slammed the third umpire for his poor call while on commentary for Star Sports.
Yashasvi Jaiswal's efforts went in vain at the Melbourne Cricket Ground
Jaiswal opened the batting for India in the second innings and batted for 311 minutes in the middle. He patiently scored 84 runs, trying his best to draw the match against Australia.
However, an unfortunate dismissal led to Jaiswal's return to the dressing room. Eventually, Australia bowled India out for just 155 and won the Test by 184 runs. With this defeat, India are 1-2 behind in the five-match Test series against Australia.
