Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 33 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Mullanpur on Thursday, April 18.
The two teams have locked horns 31 times in the T20 tournament. Mumbai have a slight edge over Punjab, leading by 16-15 in head-to-head battles.
MI beat PBKS by six wickets in their most recent faceoff in Mohali last year.
Asked to bat first, Punjab posted 214/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Arshad Khan sent back Prabhsimran Singh for a single-digit score. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan (30 off 20) and Matthew Short (27 off 26) got starts but threw their wickets away.
Liam Livingstone starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 82 runs off 42 balls in an innings laced with four sixes and seven boundaries. He put on a century-plus partnership with Jitesh Sharma, who scored an unbeaten 49 off 27 deliveries, including two sixes and five boundaries.
Piyush Chawla emerged as the leading wicket-taker for Mumbai, returning with figures of 2/29, while Arshad Khan bagged one wicket.
In response, MI achieved the target in 18.5 overs. They got off to the worst possible start as Rishi Dhawan sent back Rohit Sharma for a three-ball duck. Soon, Cameron Green threw his wicket away for 23 off 18.
Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav then starred with the bat by sharing a 116-run partnership for the third wicket. Kishan smashed 75 off 41, comprising four sixes and seven boundaries. Yadav also hit a quickfire 66 off 31, hitting two maximums and eight boundaries.
Tim David and Tilak Varma stayed unbeaten on 19 (10) and 26 (10), respectively, to take the team past the finish line.
Nathan Ellis emerged as the top wicket-taker for PBKS, finishing with figures of 2/34, while Arshdeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan bagged one wicket apiece.

MI's scorecard from their last IPL game
Mumbai Indians lost to Chennai Super Kings by 20 runs in their last IPL game at Wankhede on April 14.
Asked to bat first, CSK posted 206/4 in 20 overs. The defending champions' act of sending Ajinkya Rahane as an opener flopped after the right-hander departed for a single-digit score, caught behind off Gerald Coetzee. Rachin Ravindra soon threw away a decent start by departing for 21 off 16.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube then shared a 90-run partnership for the third wicket. Gaikwad led from the front, scoring 69 off 40 in an innings laced with five sixes and as many boundaries. Meanwhile, Dube stayed unbeaten on 66 off 38, including two maximums and 10 boundaries. Daryl Mitchell also contributed 17 off 14.
MS Dhoni provided the perfect finish, scoring 20 runs off four balls, including a hat-trick of sixes against Hardik Pandya to help the Super Kings set a 200+ target.
Pandya was the top-wicket taker with two scalps, while Shreyas Gopal and Gerald Coetzee picked up one each.
In response, MI managed 186/6. Rohit Sharma was the lone fighter, scoring an unbeaten 105 off 63, including five sixes and 11 boundaries. Tilak Varma (31 off 20), Ishan Kishan (23 off 15), and Tim David (13 off 5) got starts but failed to take their team past the finish line.
Matheesha Pathirana was the pick of the lot, finishing with exceptional figures of 4/28, while Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman also added one each to their wicket column.

PBKS' scorecard from their last IPL match
Punjab Kings lost to Rajasthan Royals by three wickets in their last IPL game in Mullanpur on April 13.
Punjab got off to a poor start after being asked to bat first. They were reduced to 70/5 as Atharva Taide (15 off 12), Jonny Bairstow (15 off 19) and Prabhsimran Singh (10 off 14) failed to convert starts into big scores.
Jitesh Sharma, Liam Livingstone and Ashutosh Sharma then came up with key contributions, scoring 29 (24), 21 (14), and 31 (16), respectively, to help the team post 147/8 in 20 overs.
Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj starred with the ball for RR, returning with two wickets apiece. Trent Boult, Kuldeep Sen and Yashasvi Jaiswal shared one wicket each.
In response, the Royals achieved the target in a last-over thriller. Yashavi Jaiswal and Tanush Kotian provided a decent start by chipping in with scores of 39 (28) and 24 (31).
PBKS then picked up a cluster of wickets to fight back into the game but 20s from Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer were enough to take the team past the finish line. Hetmyer, in particular, slammed 27 off 10, including three sixes and one boundary.
Stand-in captain Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada were the top wicket-takers for PBKS, returning with two wickets each. Arshdeep Singh, Liam Livingstone and Harshal Patel also bagged one each.
