India Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh unveiled the name of their second child, a son, on Sunday, December 1. Ritika took to Instagram to drop the name, sharing pictures of the four-member family, comprising Samaira (Sammy) born in 2018.

The couple named the kid Ahaan, born on Friday, November 15.

Ahaan is a Hindu name for boys with multiple meanings – dawn, sunrise, morning, glory, awakening, consciousness, first ray of light, awareness, etc. The word is derived from Sanskrit – Ahah, which means to awaken.

The word is associated with Lord Vishnu and suggests that the person with the name would be aware of the world around them and strive to grow and learn.

Interestingly, the names of baby boy newborns of popular current India cricketers start with the same “A” alphabet. They are - Virat Kohli (Akaay), Jasprit Bumrah (Angad), Hardik Pandya (Agastya) and now Rohit Sharma (Ahaan). Apart from current players, Sachin Tendulkar had named his son Arjun, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Rohit Sharma set to play remainder of BGT 2024-25 Test series after missing the first Test following the birth of son Ahaan

Rohit Sharma has returned to Australia to play in the last four of the five-match Test series after spending quality time with family after the birth of his son Ahaan. The skipper is playing in a warmup game against Australia PM XI ahead of the pink-ball Test, which starts in Adelaide on Friday, December 6. He will look to make the most of the game time Down Under.

Rohit will look to return to form after a dismal outing in the last five Tests, managing a solitary half-century. The Mumbai batter enjoys a great record in Australia, scoring 2033 runs across formats. Overall, he has 3571 runs against the Aussies, comprising nine centuries.

The 37-year-old is likely to replace KL Rahul, who scored 26 and 77 in the first Test in Perth, where the Jasprit Bumrah-led India won by a massive margin of 295 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Rahul is likely to play in the middle order.
