Former Team India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri was thrilled to see Australian media use Hindi and Punjabi languages in their headlines for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series between India and Australia. He emphasized that it was a proud moment for every Indian.
With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series just around the corner, the Australian media has left no stone unturned in hyping the battle between the two cricketing giants. The Daily Telegraph, an Australian newspaper, described the series as 'yugo ki ladai' (fight for the ages) in their front-page headline.
Sharing a picture of the headline on his Instagram story, Shastri wrote:
"Thunder Down Under! Front and back page coverage in one of Australia's biggest newspapers - what a proud moment for every Indian. Indian languages taking centre stage on a global platform is truly inspiring."
It is worth mentioning that Yashasvi Jaiswal was also featured in the headlines of The Daily Telegraph, with the newspaper hailing the southpaw as 'The New King'.
The five-match Test series between India and Australia is set to kick off in Perth on Friday, November 22.
"The King is back in his territory" - Ravi Shastri on Virat Kohli ahead of 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy
India's ace batter Virat Kohli has come under the scanner for his underwhelming form in red-ball cricket. Ravi Shastri, however, reminded the seasoned campaigner's critics of his stupendous record on Australian soil.
Kohli has enjoyed an imperious run in Australia. The right-handed batter has amassed 1,352 runs across 25 Test innings Down Under and has a fantastic average of 54.08 to his name.
Highlighting Kohli's stellar record in Australia, Shastri said while speaking to the ICC:
"Well, the King is back in his territory. That's all I will tell them. When you've earned that title after your exploits in Australia, it will be on your (opponent's) mind when you go out to bat."
India have dominated Australia in Test cricket in the recent past, winning the last four editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will aim to complete a hat-trick of Test series victories in Australia. The visitors need to win the series 4-0 to qualify for the World Test Championship 2023-25 final on their own.
