Australian pacer Scott Boland won the 'Player of the Match' award in the fifth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test with his exceptional bowling performance. Interestingly, the 35-year-old was once played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well.

It was during the 2016 season when Scott Boland represented the now-defunct Rising Pune SuperGiants. The Australian quick played just two matches that season and never returned to the league thereafter. He picked up only two wickets in his extremely short IPL career.

However, both his wickets were those of well-known names in international cricket. In the 33rd match of the season against the Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), Scott Boland picked up his maiden IPL wicket in the sixth over.

Delhi batted first, with Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson opening the innings. On the final ball of the sixth over, Boland accounted for the wicket of Samson, who became his maiden IPL victim.

Samson chipped a length ball from outside the off-stump straight to midwicket. He handed a simple catch to Ravichandran Ashwin, who made absolutely no mistake. Samson was dismissed for 20 runs off 17 deliveries.

Boland put up a decent display in the game, returning with figures of 2/31 from four overs. His other wicket was that of West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite. The SuperGiants also went on to win the game by seven wickets in the end.

Scott Boland rattled India in the Sydney Test

The 35-year-old was phenomenal with the ball in the BGT 2024-25 series. In the fifth Test in Sydney, Scott Boland grabbed ten wickets across both innings, leaving the Indian team in shatters. He picked up four wickets in the first innings, accounting for Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Nitish Reddy.

In the second innings, Boland returned to better his performance, picking up six wickets. He ran through the visitors' batting line-up, dismissing Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Kohli, Nitish, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah.

Australia won the game by six wickets and claimed the series 3-1 as well. Boland played a key role in their success, picking up a total of 21 wickets from just six innings at an average of 13.19.
