When umpire gave Sachin Tendulkar out and shockingly called him back without DRS in 2006 tri-series [Watch]

Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had multiple incidents where the umpires wrongly adjudged him out. The controversies erupting from Steve Bucknor's wrong decisions for Tendulkar are well-documented. But, in this throwback, we will look back at an incident from the 2006 DLF Cup, where the umpire called Tendulkar back after a wrong decision.

It was the sixth match of the DLF Cup, played on September 22, 2006, in Malaysia. Australia batted first in a rematch of the 2003 World Cup final, scoring 213 runs. In reply, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar came out to open the batting for India.

On the second ball of the second over bowled by Glenn McGrath, Tendulkar tried a pull shot on a short delivery but missed it, and the ball ballooned to the wicketkeeper. Umpire Mark Benson adjudged him out after Australia appealed for a caught behind.

But replays showed that the ball had actually hit Tendulkar's shoulder. Soon after, the umpire realized his mistake and reversed his decision. Tendulkar was called back to the crease, rightly angering the opposition captain Ricky Ponting.

The Aussie skipper had an intense discussion with the umpire and also had a word with Tendulkar. But all of this was to no avail as the umpire had reversed his decision and given it as not out.

Just an over after the controversial umpiring decision, Tendulkar drove a delivery from Brett Lee and handed a catch to Michael Hussey in the point region. Tendulkar lost his wicket for four runs off 10 balls.

Later in the run-chase, Dinesh Mongia scored an unbeaten 63 to help India inch closer to the target. However, Mongia ran out of partners as Australia bowled India out for 195 and won by 18 runs.
