Scott Boland, with his good length deliveries outside the off stump, was a thorn in the flesh for Virat Kohli during the recent Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. However, nine years ago, Kohli took Boland to the cleaners when Australia and India met in an ODI match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It was the third ODI of the bilateral series between India and Australia, played in early 2016 in Melbourne. Having lost the first two ODIs, the Indian team were under pressure to turn the tide. Batting first, while opener Rohit Sharma got out cheaply, Virat Kohli, walking in at number three, scored a fantastic century to help India post 295/6 on the board.
During his innings, Kohli smashed seven fours and two sixes, with both the maximums coming against Scott Boland. Notably, Kohli stepped out of his crease on both occasions and smashed the two deliveries over the long-on boundary.
An X user shared the two maximums by Kohli against Boland and smartly captioned the clip:
"Villains are not born, they are made."
Here's a video of the same:
The tweet has received more than 2,000 likes already on X. Boland had ended with figures of 0/63 from nine overs in that ODI at the MCG.
Virat Kohli scored a century, but India lost the match
Speaking about the aforementioned ODI match between India and Australia, Kohli's 117-run knock powered the Men in Blue to 295/6 in their 50 overs. But Australia chased down the score with three wickets in hand in just 48.5 overs, thanks to a 96-run knock from Glenn Maxwell.
The Aussie all-rounder was also named the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock. Apart from Maxwell, opener Shaun Marsh also scored a half-century for Australia.
Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma took two wickets each for India.
