During a recent interaction with Raj Shamani, former IPL chairman Lalit Modi shared a story of gifting a Porsche to former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. The story dates back to 2007 when Modi was serving as the vice-president of BCCI.
Ahead of the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, Modi had issued a challenge to the young Indian team. He promised to gift a Porsche to any player who would hit six sixes or take six wickets in an over out of his own pocket. As per the 60-year-old, his motive was to increase the TV viewership of Indian cricket.
The challenge was gracefully accepted by Yuvraj, who stunned the cricketing world on September 19, 2007. He hit six sixes in an over against England's Stuart Broad in Durban. The southpaw slammed 58 off 16 as India went on to post 218 and won by 18 runs.
After achieving the feat, Yuvraj Singh went on to ask Modi for the luxury car. The then-BCCI vice-president lived up to his promise by gifting Yuvraj the car in exchange for the bat with which he belted Broad for six sixes. The video further revealed that Modi still keeps the bat in his home as a showpiece.
Here's what Modi said:
"Nobody has hit six sixes in an over, nobody has taken six wickets in an over. Anyone who hits six sixes or takes six wickets (in an over), I'll give you a Porsche out of my pocket. Nothing to do with the BCCI. And one fine day, Yuvraj Singh blasts six sixes. My god, those six sixes was the start of the IPL, you know. It lit the fire of the Indian television, the news channels." "Yuvraj comes running to me on the field and says, 'Lalit, where is my Porsche?' I said, 'give me the bloody bat,' and the bat is downstairs," Modi added.

Abhishek Sharma was inspired by Yuvraj Singh's six sixes
Indian T20I opener, Abhishek Sharma recently revealed that he was inspired by his mentor Yuvraj Singh's six sixes in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The left-hander's comments came ahead of India's T20I fixture against South Africa in Durban on November 8, the same ground that witnessed the magic of Yuvraj.
Here's what Sharma said in an interaction with BCCI:
"I have come here for the time, but when saw it (the ground) on TV and now that I am here, it's like a dream come true. I was inspired by Yuvraj Singh's six sixes in 2007. The first day when I came here I was trying to figure out from what end to which end he had hit the sixes. He had sixes all over the ground, it's a great memory."
Despite his wish to make Yuvraj proud, Abhishek Sharma was dismissed on 7 off 8 in this game. However, India posted 202, on the back of Sanju Samson's century and won the game by 61 runs.
