“Why would anyone do this again” - Farhan Akhtar’s emotional post for Rohit Sharma after his absence in BGT 2024-25 5th Test

Bollywood actor, director, and singer Farhan Akhtar has put up an emotional post for Rohit Sharma following his absence from the fifth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Sydney.

Taking to Instagram, Akhtar defended Rohit Sharma's decision to sit out of the fifth Test. He began by praising the Indian batter, writing that he has done a lot for Indian cricket and has led the team successfully over the years as well.

Farhan lauded Rohit for his performances, saying that his skills with the bat do all the talking. He also added that the right-hander has played many innings that display his elite level.

Talking about his current form and the decision to step aside, the Bollywood celebrity stated that the sport can be cruel. He said that the greatest batters and bowlers struggle for form. While the players are sent back to domestic cricket or asked to take a break in such scenarios, Farhan said that finding someone, let alone a captain, who would voluntarily step aside, is difficult.

"Yes, this sport can be cruel and you’d be hard pressed to come up with a name of a cricketer who hasn’t gone through a lean period. We’ve seen the greatest batsmen and bowlers struggle for form .. at times we’ve secretly wished that they would take a break, find their form in domestic cricket or the nets, then make a comeback. You’d be hard pressed to think of someone, more so a captain, who did that voluntarily," he wrote.

Farhan came in support of Rohit Sharma, speaking against those bad-mouthing the Indian batter.

"Now here’s a guy who’s putting his teams chances of a win ahead of himself finding form and instead of being applauded for his selflessness, the majority is tearing him down," he stated.

He further urged people to question themselves as to why would someone do such a thing while the world is criticizing him.

"Ask yourself.. why would anyone do this again if this is how the world responds to a man thinking of the larger cause than his own glory?."

Farhan Akhtar calls Rohit Sharma 'superstar'

Toward the end of the post, Farhan Akhtar also wrote that Rohit Sharma is a superstar. He added that the cricketer knows what he is doing and will not let the negativity affect him.

He also thanked Rohit for putting the team ahead of himself and lauded him for his strong mind and heart by doing so.

Farhan concluded by saying that this act of Rohit makes him a great leader. He ended the note wishing to see the cricketer back on the field soon.

You know what you’re doing and I know you won’t let the negativity get you down.. but just want to say thank you for showing the world that you put team before individual. It’s a hard thing to do and only the strongest of mind and heart can do it. That’s what makes a great leader. See you back on the field soon," he wrote.
