Australian cricketers Chris Green and Mitchell Swepson are wearing the number '0' on their shirts in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-24 clash between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder on Monday, January 6.
Chris Green is wearing 0 with the words 'Towards Zero' while Swepson is wearing 0 as well. The players are doing so to mark a vision of zero lives lost on roads from both Queensland and New South Wales State Governments by 2050.
The two teams, Heat and Thunder, are promoting the Road Safety Cup. The Road Safety Cup is a vital factor of a partnership between Queensland Cricket and TMR (Transport & Main Roads).
The Road Safety Cup is held during each BBL and WBBL season. Sydney Thunder beat Brisbane Heat in the WBBL and are the current holders of the Road Safety Cup. Meanwhile, Brisbane Heat hold the trophy in the BBL after beating Thunder in 2023.
“We know our fans, like most Queenslanders, are enjoying time on holidays or visiting family and friends during the summer, which likely means time on the road. We hope the Road Safety Cup can be a time when we all reflect on road safety and keeping each other safe," Brisbane Heat CEO Terry Svenson was quoted as saying by brisbaneheat.com.au.

Ahead of the BBL 2024-25 clash between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder on Monday, Terry Svenson also encouraged all the club's fans to show extra care on the roads.
“We encourage all Heat fans to show extra care on the roads during this summer’s festive season and school holidays," he stated.
He also extended his gratitude to Brent Mickelberg, who is the Transport and Main Roads Minister.
"Thank you to Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg and his team for your support of the Brisbane Heat and Queensland Cricket and your assistance in promoting this important message to our members and fans," he said.
In the clash between the two sides, Sydney Thunder batted first and posted a total of 173/8 from their 20 overs. At the time of writing, the Brisbane Heat, in pursuit of the target, are 32/2 from six overs, needing 142 more runs to win.
