Horley and Fraser’s all-round performance, and Maqsood's Masterclass Power Scotland to Maiden Victory
Scotland had lost the toss and were asked to bat first. Saskia Horley, the Scottish opener, delivered a remarkable 100-run knock off 121 balls. Her knock included 12 fours before being caught in Vicky Buruka’s over.
Horley’s opening partner Abbi Aitken and no.3 batter Darcey Carter added 16 runs each and hit two boundaries as well. Megan McColl’s 24 off 33 provided some stability in the middle.
However, Katherine Fraser’s outstanding unbeaten inning of 74 runs from 75 deliveries helped Scotland set a formidable 259-run target for the loss of six wickets.
Henao Thomas was the lead bowler for Papua New Guinea with a three-wicket haul while Vicky Buruka, Geua Tom, and Sibona Jimmy claimed one wicket each. Siaka and Isabel Toua went wicketless in five and seven overs, respectively.
In reply, Papua New Guinea’s top order including Naoani Vare (30), captain and wicket-keeper batter Brenda Tau (25), and Tanya Ruma (25) gave a fine start. Pauke Siaka scored a crucial 49-ball 44-run knock. However, the rest of the batters couldn’t support her and were bowled out to 196/10 in 46.1 overs.
Abtaha Maqsood and Horley were the key bowlers with a four-wicket haul each while Fraser and Gabriella Fontenla took one apiece.
