Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) speedster Yash Dayal will join Team India as one of the traveling reserve bowlers ahead of the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy. The 26-year-old will replace the injured Khaleel Ahmed as one of the reserves for the tour.

Dayal was called earlier this year to the national Test side for the two-match series against Bangladesh. It was anticipated that he could be one of the bowlers who could be selected for the tour down under but was left out of the squad announced. Instead, he was part of the T20I team that was selected to play the four-match T20I series in South Africa.

Dayal joins the touring party as he replaces fellow southpaw Khaleel Ahmed. The former Delhi Capitals pacer developed a niggle in his knee and was unable to bowl further in the sessions. Dayal, who was in Johannesburg, has flown down to Perth and has joined the team.

Yash Dayal was drafted into the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team for ₹5 crores in the auction last year. While the move was scrutinized by many after Dayal was smashed for five sixes by Rinku Singh in IPL 2023, the 26-year-old soon became a stand-out bowler for the side. The left-arm pacer bowled across all phases of the game and picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches.

His performances in the IPL earned him his maiden T20I call-up for Team India's tour of South Africa, where he warmed the benches. Dayal was the only uncapped player retained by the Bengaluru-based franchise, with Rajat Patidar (₹11 crores) and Virat Kohli (₹21 crores) completing their list of capped players.
