"You can’t reach him" - Former Indian batter on MS Dhoni's irritating habit

Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa said reaching out to the legendary MS Dhoni for a conversation is as daunting a task as they come. Uthappa played all of his international cricket with Dhoni with most of his matches coming under Dhoni's captaincy.

He played a massive role in helping India win the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa, with Dhoni leading the side. Meanwhile, Dhoni took off after the T20 World Cup triumph, helping India to title runs in the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy.

Talking about his relationship with Dhoni, Uthappa said on the Lallantop YouTube channel [Via Hindustan Times]:

"We talk regularly. He doesn’t keep his phone which is a very bad and irritating habit. You can’t reach him. Even after being such close friends, we need to inform his manager that we are coming."

Robin Uthappa also made a surprising revelation about Dhoni, saying:

"I have never seen him drinking milk. I have never seen him drinking milk ever."

MS Dhoni also helped India become the No.1 ranked side in Tests at the end of the 2000s. The 43-year-old retired from international cricket after India's semi-final exit in the 2019 ODI World Cup.

Dhoni remains India's most successful captain across formats with 178 wins in 332 outings.

Robin Uthappa praised MS Dhoni for remaining the same even after all these years with the incredible success he has achieved.

Uthappa also played under Dhoni with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL in 2021 and 2022, with the side winning the title in 2021.

"When we sit with him, it is like time hasn’t gone by. There can be 20 people sitting there, but your connection with him will be the same. The person I met in 2004 for the first time in Mumbai, I was introduced to him in Taj President Hotel during the Challenger Trophy. I met him for the first time, S Sriram introduced me to Dhoni. That’s how we met. The man I met in 2004 is still the same, when I sit and talk with him, the level of friendship is different," said Uthappa.

MS Dhoni is also the IPL's most successful captain with 133 wins in 226 matches, including leading CSK to a joint-record five titles. The 43-year-old will be in action for the franchise in IPL 2025.
