Team India opener Abhishek Sharma endured a disappointing outing with the bat once again, falling for only a run-a-ball four in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 12. The 24-year-old smashed a boundary off his second delivery before miscuing a pull off the first ball of the third over to get dismissed cheaply again.
After an incredible IPL 2024 season, Abhishek debuted for India in the away T20I series against Zimbabwe in July. The southpaw scored a brilliant 47-ball century in only his second outing following a duck on debut.
However, his form has dipped since with five consecutive scores of under 20 at an average of under 12 in that stretch. With the string of low scores, Abhishek's overall T20I average has dropped to under 23 in eight matches.
Fans on Twitter were unhappy with the youngster wasting his opportunities and expressed the same with the following reactions:
Fans continued expressing their disappointment over Abhishek Sharma's poor start in T20Is with one saying:
"There is immense potential of course, but I hope people are prepared for Abhishek to have a career of two extremes."
"Such a fraud performance by Abhishek Sharma in entire series," a fan tweeted.
"Abhishek Sharma is disappointed in the international. He is struggling to get a 20 also,So far he is one match wonder only. Apart from the one match hundred,he still needs to make a substantial contribution. There is no use of talent if it's not consistent," tweeted a fan.
Team India march ahead with an incredible counterattack after Abhishek Sharma's early dismissal
Team India lost Abhishek Sharma early after winning the toss and electing to bat first, but that had no impact on their scoring.
Fellow opener Sanju Samson, devoid of runs himself, finally let loose and brought up his half-century in only 22 deliveries. It was the fastest fifty for an Indian batter against Bangladesh in T20Is, bettering Rohit Sharma's 23-ball display.
Samson was joined in the mayhem by skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who overcame twin failures in the opening two T20Is to reach his half-century off 23 deliveries.
The Men in Blue are currently rampaging along at 178/1 in the 12th over and look to be on course for a massive record-breaking total. Samson is nearing his century, batting on 95 off 38 balls.
They won the opening two T20Is comprehensively and will look to complete the 3-0 series whitewash.
