Former India cricketer Jhulan Goswami has penned down a heartfelt note after the demise of her childhood coach Swapan Sadhu. The veteran coach mentored many cricketers at Vivekananda Park in Kolkata.

Sadhu died on Monday, January 6, at the age of 77. Taking to her official Instagram account, Goswami posted a picture with her coach along with an emotional message.

Goswami wrote:

"Today, I lost not just a coach but a mentor and a guide. Swapan Sadhu sir, you shaped me both as a cricketer and as a person. Your lessons will forever echo in my heart. Rest in peace, and thank you for everything. You will always be remembered. Om Shanti."

Sadhu played a major role during Goswami's formative years. The right-arm pacer would travel from Chakdaha, which is around 67 kilometers away from Kolkata, to train at Sadhu's academy.

Goswami enjoyed an illustrious career before bowing out in September 2022. With 255 scalps from 203 innings, she is the leading wicket-taker in women's ODIs. Following her retirement, she joined the Mumbai Indians as their bowling coach and mentor in the Women's Premier League.

"I put a lot of effort just to represent my country" - When Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami opened up about her journey

Jhulan Goswami's cricketing journey kicked off during the 1997 ICC Women's World Cup final at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, where she was a ball girl. She once revealed that it was the day when her dream of representing the Indian team was conceived.

Goswami reflected on her cricketing journey in a video shared by the BCCI ahead of her farewell match in September 2022.

"In 1997, I saw the women’s World Cup final at the Eden Gardens between Australia and New Zealand as a ball girl. That day, I dreamt of representing my country one day. That is how I started. I put a lot of effort just to represent my country and that is the biggest moment of my life so far," Goswami said.

Goswami's two-decade-long career came to an end on September 24, 2022. She registered figures of 10-3-30-2 against England in her final ODI appearance.
