The Indian test opener was bought by his home franchise for a base price of 2 Crore but the stylish Chennai batsman did not have a happy homecoming either.

He just played the one match this season and scored 12 runs off 10 balls. With Rayudu perfectly fitting into multiple roles as an opener and as a middle-order batsman, Vijay was sidelined on the remaining occasions.

With Kedar Jadhav expected to return next season, Vijay might find it more difficult to get into the playing XI and might be overlooked in 2019.
