After an impressive season, Ashwin was retained by the Pune franchise. In 2018, he was bought for 2.2 crore by RCB but his services weren't utilised properly by skipper Kohli.

Mumbai Indians, in the 2018 season, lacked a high quality spinner in their squad. Hence, the inclusion of Murugan Ashwin will help their fortunes in the 2019 edition. Skipper Rohit Sharma, who is a specialist in using spinners in the middle overs, can make the best use of Ashwin if picked.
