Piyush Chawla made his international debut in 2006 when he was just 17 years old. Selectors showed a lot of trust in his abilities and selected him in all formats. He was also part of India's team that won the inaugural World T20 in 2007. Chawla had a lean phase but was then selected in the final 15 for World Cup 2011.

He played a couple of matches in the tournament that the hosts went on to win. The leg-spinner faded away from the scene after the World Cup but he continued to perform in the IPL. After playing for Kings XI Punjab for the first three years, Chawla has been part of Kolkata Knight Riders. He played a huge role in KKR's title victory in 2014 where he hit the winning run against his previous team Kings XI Punjab in a close final.
