Pakistani national team opener, Sharjeel Khan on Thursday revealed that he was being blackmailed by an unknown caller who threatened to post certain videos of him on social media websites.
In a video posted on his page on Twitter and Facebook, he told his followers that he was being blackmailed by callers from unknown numbers. The callers were threatening to post “fake videos” of Khan on social media platforms if he failed to give them a certain amount of money.

The batsman urged his supporters to not trust those videos as they were definitely fake. He added that such videos would only be an attempt at defaming him.

Speaking about this matter, famous Pakistani sports journalist Yahya Hussaini said to the media, “He seemed relaxed and calm when I phoned him [Sharjeel]. I asked him to give his point of view on Geo News, Sharjeel stated that he believes he will handle this issue on his own, if needed be, he will inform media and police too regarding the issue,” said Yahya.
It has also been reported that an amount of up to two lakh Pakistani rupees were being demanded from the batsman.
While the Pakistan Cricket Board has said that an anti-corruption team has been assigned to probe into the matter, it is not confirmed whether a police complaint has been made yet as there is no confirmation of that from Khan’s side.
Sharjeel Khan is known to be an explosive batsman in the Pakistani cricket team. He is a limited overs specialist and has played 11 One Day Internationals and Twenty20s each. The 26-year-old plays for Islamabad United in the Pakistani Super League, which Pakistan’s premier T20 competition. Khan was also selected in Pakistan’s squad for the World T20 which was held earlier this year.
