In an One Day International match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in 2013 at Pallekele, Thisara Perera hit the left-arm spinner Robin Peterson for 34 runs in an over: 6 6 6 6 4 6. With a wide delivery bowled, it took the total tally to 35, falling only one short of the world record for the most number of runs scored in an over in ODIs: 36 by former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs against Netherlands in 2006/07.
