Paul Farbrace resigns as Sri Lanka's cricket coach

Paul Farbrace, a former first class English cricketer, presented his resignation as Sri Lanka’s coach on Tuesday. He is all set to take up the potential role of England’s assistant coach to Peter Moores who had been replaced by Andy Flower. Although ECB is still to certify Farbrace’s appointment, Sri Lanka cricket believes that Farbrace will return to his homeland.

“National coach Paul Farbrace tendered his resignation and has indicated his unavailability to continue with immediate effect in order to take up an appointment with the ECB,” Sri Lanka Cricket said.

46-year-old Farbrace had been Sri Lanka’s head coach for 3 months during which he won both the Asia Cup and World T20. Sri Lanka is now in need of a new coach before they set out for their tour to England next month where they will play two Tests and a limited over series.

Since 2010, Sri Lanka have had a progression of coaches in Trevor Bayliss, Stuart Law, Rumesh Ratnayake, Geoff Marsh, Graham Ford and Farbrace.

Sri Lanka has had six coaches in 4 years and they are currently looking for their seventh coach. Farbrace had a contract with Sri Lanka Cricket until the end of the ODI World Cup in 2015. With the Kent wicket-keeper’s resignation, it will be interesting to see Sri Lanka and England’s cricketing performance in the upcoming months.
