Mark Chapman was born in Hong Kong, to a Chinese mother and a Kiwi father.

Chapman played for Hong Kong in the 2010 U19 World Cup at the age of 15. He went on to represent Hong Kong in Associate tournaments. Chapman made his T20I debut in the 2014 World T20. He scored a century in his ODI debut against UAE.

Chapman holds dual-citizenship of Hong Kong and New Zealand. He represents Auckland team in the domestic cricket. Strong performances in the Super Smash tournament earned him a national call-up. Chapman made his New Zealand debut against England at Westpac Stadium in February 2018
