Just like most of the West Indian players in recent times, Dwayne Smith was famous for his aggressive and explosive batting as well as his ability to take wickets with his medium pace bowling. Although he played 148 matches for West Indies across all formats, he is mostly remembered for his exploits in T20 leagues all across the world.

After playing only 4 matches in the inaugural season of IPL, Smith was bought by Deccan Chargers and he was instrumental in their victorious campaign, scoring 215 runs in the 8 matches that he played for the team. Even though he was retained by the team for the next season, he only played 3 matches and was released at the end of the tournament.

Smith was bought by Mumbai Indians in 2012 and stayed with the team for 2 years. He was a vital member of the 2013 victorious campaign as he was the 3rd highest run scorer for the franchise, scoring 413 runs in just 13 games. Smith then played for Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions for the subsequent four seasons but went unsold in the 2018 auction.
