Ever since the arrival of Mahendra Singh Dhoni on the national level, Parthiv Patel has played the role of the backup keeper of the Indian Team in all formats. Despite having made his debut 16 years ago, Patel has only featured in 65 matches for the Indian cricket team across all formats, and still makes appearances for the Indian team.

Contrary to his national career, Patel has been in the IPL since 2008 and has been part of 6 different IPL teams. However, it was during his stints with Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians that he played his best game. Even though he was a regular member of CSK XI for the first two season, he only played 4 matches and scored 57 runs in their 2010 victorious campaign.

After a few lacklustre stints with 4 different franchises, Patel was signed by the Mumbai Indians in 2015, with whom he won 2 more IPL titles. In 2015 and 2017, Patel played 14 and 16 matches respectively, scoring 339 and 395 in both the editions and played a vital role in both the victorious campaigns. As of 2018, Patel is signed to the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
