The Australian batsman started playing for the Royals in 2012. He was one of the major pillars of the batting line up. In the three years with the team, he scored 639 runs at an average of 35.37. His strike-rate during this period was an excellent 138.22.

One of his finest innings came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013. His team was five down for 57 chasing a score of 133. He scored a quick-fire 59 off just 29 balls to take his team home.
Though Hodge did not play in the IPL after 2014, he continued his association with the IPL as a coach. The former Australian batsman coached the Gujarat Lions in season 9 and 10 and is set to do so for the Kings XI Punjab in 2018.
