Rajeev Shukla has made it clear that he will not continue as the IPL Chairman after he stepped down from the position of IPL chairman in the wake of the match fixing allegations against players and also team owners of certain IPL franchises this season.
He had made the decision in the interest of propriety, as apart from all the above happenings even the BCCI chairman’s son-in-law was implicated as an accused.
Questions were raised about his intentions when Shukla chaired an Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council meet on Friday as reported by Zee News. But he has made it very clear that he will not continue in the position of IPL Chairman, even though he has no problems with the BCCI.
“They (BCCI) requested me to chair the meeting and I did so. There were no issues with that. But I have told the board that I do not wish to continue as IPL chairman,” Shukla said.
Shukla had made the decision to quit the IPL about two months back, but his resignation was declined by Jagmohan Dalmiya who is the interim chief of the BCCI.
The Congress Member of Parliament has said that he has requested the board to search for a new IPL chairman, ahead of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Annual General Meeting which is due in the month of September.
“I took the job for two years and now it is time for someone else. I am sure the BCCI will find a suitable candidate,” said Shukla, who had taken over from Chirayu Amin in 2011.
Recently, Rajeev Shukla and four other members had taken the step to ask the Chairman of the BCCI N.Srinivasan to not overlook the Bombay HC court observation. Mr.Srinivasan had wanted to chair the working committee meeting, which had to be postponed later.
