Ranji Trophy set to be postponed, limited-overs tournaments to start early as part of World Cup preparations

According to reports, domestic limited-overs tournaments have been given the go-ahead to be held before the age-old Ranji Trophy tournament, which would be an ideal preparation for the World Cup 2015 in Australia and New Zealand.

India’s domestic limited overs tournaments, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Deodhar Trophy will be played before the Ranji Trophy to give an opportunity for the players to get selected in the 2015 World Cup squad.

The decision was recommended by BCCI’s technical committee, headed by former Indian skipper Anil Kumble, and is now waiting for BCCI’s working committee’s approval.

The matches might also be played under the existing ODI rules and regulations and teams will be allowed to take a new ball from either end.

With a change in schedule, the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy and the Corporate Trophy have been moved to next year, owing to a crowded calendar year. The under-25 age group for CK Naidu Trophy has been amended and has been cut short to Under-23, with a minimum of three Ranji Players allowed per team.

While confirming the West Indian tour of India in October, the tour programme and fixtures committee have laid down the venues for the tour.
